John William "Bill" Beheler

John William "Bill" Beheler, age 96, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at White Oak Manor in Shelby. Born in Converse SC on October 14, 1920, he was the son of the late Edward Richard and Millie Dorothy Lee Beheler. He has been a member of Eastside Baptist Church since 1938 where he was Church Treasurer for a number of years, member of the choir, Sunday School Teacher, served as Chairman of the Deacon Board and a former Deacon. He was drafted in the Army in 1943 during WWII, and he served in the 78th finance disbursing section under General George Patton. He participated in the Normandy Invasion in 1944 and received 5 battle stars. Bill received his finance education at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiana. He started working for Carolina Dairy in 1946 as Secretary and Treasurer. He served as President of the North Carolina Dairy Tech Society of NC State University and was on the Board of Directors of NC State University Dairy Foundation. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Mill Beheler and a daughter, Monica Frances Beheler.

Bill is survived by his grandson, James Detter of Winston Salem; two sisters, Jeanette Beheler Simmons of Winston Salem and Margaret Beheler Jay of Shelby; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of White Oak Manor and Cleveland House for the loving care they gave Bill during his stay with them.

Memorial service, with Military Honors, will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 4:00 pm at Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Byrd and Rev. Leland Kerr officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm in the sanctuary
