Johnny Ray Reavis

Johnny Ray Reavis, 80, of Kings Mountain, passed away August 4, 2017 at his home after a brief illness. Johnny was retired from textile management.

Johnny was born in Iredell County, Statesville, NC, on April 4, 1937; son of the late Vance Brown Reavis and the late Margaret Elizabeth Morrison Reavis. He is survived by his wife, Johnsie Moose Reavis, daughters Jewel Reavis of Kings Mountain, NC; Janet Burns and husband Robert Burns, of Kings Mountain, NC; Joan Reavis Owen and husband Ted Owen of Stedman, NC; grandchildren Megan and Morgan Burns, and Trey and Tara Owen; his sister Virginia Seats of Mocksville, NC; brothers Robert E. Reavis and wife Jane of Statesville, NC; James L. Reavis and wife Rachel of Statesville, NC. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant son Joel Gordon Reavis.

Johnny will be remembered as a man of faith who lived by the tenants of God, Family and Service. He volunteered for and was a member of many organizations, most notably Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Methodist Men; the Lions Club International of which he was a Melvin Jones Fellow and recipient of the John L. Stickley Award for humanitarian service; Red Cross where he was a blood donor and volunteer; Habitat for Humanity building team; the Kings Mountain Historical Museum where he served on the Board and Southern Arts Society in Kings Mountain, where he volunteered faithfully.

His great passions in life were KMHS football, where he rarely missed attending a game; bluegrass music, especially going to Merlefest; watching NASCAR and other sports. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and enjoyed working in the yard. He and wife Johnsie enjoyed traveling around the world through the Lions Club.

A memorial service will he held Tuesday August 8 at Central United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain, NC at 2 pm. The family will receive friends after the service in the CAC (Christian Activity Center).
