Joseph Curtis (Curt) Pounders, Jr., went home peacefully to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, January 12, 2026, after a long illness. His loving wife, Betty Pounders, his precious service dog, Little Blue and his devoted son, Greg Pounders were at his side.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, son Greg Pounders and two stepsons, Greg Hester and Wes Hester; 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his mother, Jeanette S. Pounders, his father, Joseph C. Pounders, Sr. and a sister, Linda P. Hall.

The funeral will be on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 2:00 pm with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Longleaf Baptist Church, located at 317 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC 28412. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby, NC, with graveside service conducted by stepson, Pastor Greg Hester at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in memory of Curt Pounders to Long Leaf Baptist Church, 317 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC 28412.

Curt Pounders was born in Shelby, NC, on May 17, 1943. He graduated from Shelby High School and graduated from N.C. State University with a B.S. in Math. He retired as an analyst from the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.

Curt loved the Lord and was a member of Long Leaf Baptist Church. Curt was an avid reader and loved to travel with his wife, Betty, having completed over 30 trips and cruises,
