Joseph Eben Hanna

Joseph Eben Hanna, age 86, died peacefully on January 13, 2018 at Carolinas Healthcare Cleveland. Born on May 11, 1931 in Woodruff, SC, he was the son of the late Joseph Leroy and Minnie McFerrin Hanna. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hanna is preceded in death by his beloved wife Margaret McGill Hanna and one brother.

Mr. Hanna is survived by his daughter, Susan Hanna Read and husband Charlie of Candler; a granddaughter, Lori Read Clark and husband Brad; three great grandchildren, Alex, Noah, and Christina all of Cave Creek AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hanna graduated from Woodruff High School and Clemson University. Mr. Hanna worked for Reeves Brothers where he retired as an engineer. He served with the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve with the rank of Captain. He has been devoted volunteer at Carolinas HealthCare System Cleveland County for many years, giving over 5700 hours of service. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed volunteering for the American Legion World Series games in Shelby. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shelby and loved his Friendship Sunday School class.

Memorial service with Military Honors will be on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Webb Chapel of First Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Tench officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the Ladies Parlor, and other times at the home on 918 Sarratt Drive, Shelby NC 28152.
