Joseph William Vickers, Sr.
Joseph William Vickers, Sr., age 89, of Henrietta, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Fair Haven of Forest City.
Joseph was born December 20, 1928 in Rutherford County to the late Charlie Baxter Vickers and Eva Champion Vickers. He worked for Burlington Industries and in textiles for over sixty years and loved his family dearly. He enjoyed watching wrestling and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Marjorie Durham Vickers; a son, Ricky "Harley" Vickers, Sr.; one brother, C.B. Vickers and four sisters, Alice Vickers, Ruth Bradley, Gertrude Emory and Mary Tesseneer; two grandchildren, Kristy Vickers and Travis Vickers.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Joseph W. Vickers, Jr. and wife, Rosa of Henrietta; daughter-in-law, Wanda Vickers of Cliffside; eight grandchildren, Michelle Arwood (Travis), Tim Vickers (Lisa), Richard Dale Vickers (Kelly), Ricky Vickers, Jr. (Lisa), Joshua Vickers, Joseph Vickers, Rachel Griffin (Daniel) and Trilana Vickers; sixteen great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Wayne Toney, Reverend Sam Henderson and Reverend Clayton Hartsell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. At other times they will be gathered at 211 Highland Street, Henrietta.
