Mrs. Julia Ree Barnes, 85, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, at Hospice of Cleveland County, NC. She was born on August 12, 1939, in Newberry, South Carolina, to the late Willie Albert Koon and Rosa Mae Gladney.

Julia spent her life caring for others at Rutherford Hospital until she retired to care for her late husband. She enjoyed traveling, fishing with Mr. Barnes, and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe L. Barnes; and daughter, Malie Barnes.

She is survived by her children Betty (Michael) Burson, Rose Sanders, Elaine Barnes, Tracey Barnes, Joe Barnes, Jr. , and Ronnie Barnes; siblings, Doris (Deloyed) Nelson, Priscilla Henderson, and Teresa (Fred) Sanders; a host of grand and great grandchildren stretching through five generations; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 7, 2025, at S. T. Enloe Memorial Chapel in Shelby, NC. Enloe Mortuary was in charge of the services.
