Katie Champion, age 73, of Ellenboro, passed away Monday, November 7, 2022 at her residence.
Katie was born Tuesday, March 15, 1949 in Rutherford County to the late Otis Greenlee and Francis Clayton Greenlee. She worked in textiles most of her life and was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. Katie enjoyed quilting, sewing and doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed caring for her pets and growing plants.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Champion, Sr.; a grandson, Chandler Champion and a longtime companion and friend, Braxton Gulley.
Left to cherish fond memories are her children, Jeff Champion of Cliffside, Maria Hudson (Grady) of Ellenboro, Steve Champion, Jr. (Dannielle) of Ellenboro and Mark Champion (Crystal) of Ellenboro; sister, Doris Matheney of Rutherfordton; twelve grandchildren, Haylee McFarland (Caleb), Gelica Champion, Jesi Yelton (Derek), Ashlie Hudson, Raven Jolley (Jacob),Cobie Champion, Codie Champion, Cecilie Champion, Caylie Champion, Chandlie Champion, Kaitlyn Champion, Kyle Champion and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 pm on Saturday, November 12th at Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Bob Philbeck. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm on Saturday at Harrelson Funeral Home prior to the graveside service.
