Keep Shelby Beautiful!
Keep Shelby Beautiful says “A BIG THANK YOU” to those volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning, March 19th to participate in a 2011 Great American Cleanup event. The cleanup included a litter sweep along eight City streets and three lots in the Chestnut neighborhood and a litter sweep along Hickory Creek in Palmer Park. Over 500 pounds of litter and recyclables were collected and removed from the Chestnut neighborhood.
Who are these community heroes? Lillie Smith, Evelyn Russell, Vania Littlejohn, Tony Littlejohn, Mary Hoey, Christian Hoey, Kellie Black, Natalie Austin, Asher Lucas, Cathy Ciesielski, Nick Simpson, Beverly Simpson, Sandra Renick, Sandy Brenneman, Kathy Brenneman, Fred Blackley, Hunter McSwain, Emmanuel Wallace, Ryan Tilley, Fred Harrill, Tim Austin, Tom Martin,Kim Tedder, Richard Tedder, Andy Starnes, Fran McSwain, Linda Price, Don Byrnes, Wiley Smith, Ted Phillips, Evan Phillips, Eddie Gems, Zeke Hamrick, Miles Beam, Bridge Bonino, Steve Roderick, and Mike Lowery.
When neighbors and others in a community unite to remove litter and debris from their neighborhoods, it is the beginning of a process of community rejuvenation. The 2011 GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP is all about the quality of life. Keep Shelby Beautiful knows that beautiful communities are not just nice to look at – they are economically vibrant places where people want to live, work, shop and play. Clean communities help deter crime and keep our streets and neighborhoods safe. A community that takes pride in their surroundings will not tolerate others who do not show the same respect.
It’s not too late to take charge and participate in the 2011 Great American Cleanupfrom March through May!
