Keep Shelby Beautiful presented its 2012 Appreciation awards to the Wal-Mart Distribution Center #6070; to John and Martha Cline of Cline’s Nursery and to Trey Warrick of Shelby Nursery at the Fred Blackley Keep Shelby Beautiful 2012 Service Award luncheon. This award is presented to those who have supported Keep Shelby Beautiful programs by their financial support and participation of KSB events.
Wal-Mart Distribution Center #6070 Presentation: Over the years Wal-Mart Distribution Center #6070 associates have volunteered their time to improve the environment and livability of our community through litter reduction and beautification events. This year 81 associates from Wal-Mart Distribution Center # 6070 worked 1,100 hours picking up litter along roadways, planting flowers, mowing yards and raking leaves throughout the community. The volunteer effort of these associates financially benefits the community through the Volunteerism Always Pays Program, sponsored by the Wal-Mart Foundation. Based on this year’s number of associates and their hours worked as volunteers, a $5,000 donation has been made to Keep Shelby Beautiful from the Wal-Mart Foundation. This donation will be used by Keep Shelby Beautiful to continue litter reduction, beautification and recycling programs in 2013.
Cline’s Nursery at 1901 Fallston Road: Over the past couple of years, John and Martha Cline of Cline’s Nursery have generously donated over 40 beautiful Japanese Red Maple trees, valued at hundreds of dollars, to the participants of KSB’s BIG TREE Contest held in the spring. The Clines have generously given to the BIG TREE Contest participants, because they believe in helping to promote the beauty and the environmental value of trees to our community.
Trey Warrick of Shelby Nursery at 460 Cherryville Road: Each spring for the past 3 years, Keep Shelby Beautiful has called on certified arborist, Trey Warrick, to judge the nominated trees for KSB’s BIG TREE CONTEST, which runs from February till mid-March. Trey donates his time to visit each nominated tree in order to verify the tree’s measurement. Trey also uses his skills as an arborist to evaluate the tree’s health. Trey’s donation of his time and talents helped make the BIG TREE Contest a successful event for all participants.
