Keep Shelby Beautiful Presents May 2011 Commercial Appearance Award

The May 2011 Commercial Appearance Award recipient is Cornerstone Dental Associates at 101 Life Enrichment Blvd. According to Keep Shelby Beautiful (KSB), this property received the award based on the following “Appearance Award Criteria”:
1. New construction that redevelops or improves an existing commercial area that exceeds minimum landscaping and screening requirements
2. Maintenance of the business property that enhances the appearance of their area
3. The property enhances and preserves the natural environment with landscaping and trees
4. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) Certified Building -currently the only one in Cleveland Co.
What does it mean to be a LEED Certified building?
• LEED Certified building meets established standards of energy sustainability and environmental friendliness, both in their interior environments and in their effect on the surrounding ecology.
• LEED Certified buildings are designed to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment
As a LEED Certified building, Cornerstone Dental Associates incorporates into their landscape:                                              
• extensive use of trees, shrubs and native grasses
• Different mowing regime used that results in a mixed meadow; all patient chairs overlook the meadow
• planting scheme is designed in concert with a decentralized storm drainage plan on the site
• no artificial irrigation is used on the property
According to Keep Shelby Beautiful Chairman, Steve Roderick, “Cornerstone Dental Associates surpasses the guidelines for receiving this exclusive commercial appearance award.  We are most grateful for their demonstrated efforts to keep Shelby beautiful.”
