Kenneth Ray McGinnis

Kenneth Ray McGinnis, age 90, of Bostic, passed away Friday, March 1, 2024 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Kenneth was born Tuesday, November 28, 1933 in Rutherford County to the late James Adam McGinnis and Jessie Mae Henson McGinnis. He was a graduate of Alexander High School and earned an associate degree from Isothermal Community College. Kenneth served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as an electrician for Fountain Electric and Fieldcrest Mill for many years. Kenneth owned and operated the Carpet Barn in Ellenboro for forty-one years. He was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church and enjoyed playing blue grass gospel music with the Piney Mountain Boys. He ministered weekly at local rest homes, churches and the Senior Citizens Center. Kenneth also enjoyed woodworking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Daniel McGinnis; sister, Catherine Cooper; an infant grandchild, Heather McGinnis and great-grandchildren, Caleb Lancaster and Dylan McMahan.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of forty-four years, Barbara S. McGinnis; sons, David McGinnis of Forest City and Doug McGinnis (Cindy) of Ellenboro; sisters, Carolyn Harrill, Joyce Hefman, Judy Webb and Rita Dodson (Mike). He is also survived by ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 5th at Grace Chapel with Reverend Ricky Poteat officiating. Interment will follow at Glenwood Baptist Church Cemetery with Military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Grace Chapel on Monday.
