Kings Mountain’s Joy Theatre Reopens
Joy Theatre’s marquee displays the upcoming events.
The kick off this season and the first full scale presentation of the completely refurbished Joy Theatre in Kings Mountain is a "must see". The personal tour by Jim Champion, President of the Kings Mountain Little Theatre was not only very informative but awe inspiring. The Joy Theatre which the Kings Mountain Little Theatre bought in 2001 fulfilled its' dream and is definitely ready to show and tell. The theatre now holds 268 brand new seats, complete with cup holders and donors plaques embedded on the right arm of the seat. There is also four spaces for the handicapped. The seats are selling for $350 each and with 225 sold, there are only 43 seats left for sale. "School House Rock" will be the initial presentation in the new theatre, on Fridays and Saturdays, March 9, 10, 16, and 17 at 7:30 PM, with matinees on Sundays, March 11 and 18 at 3:00 PM.  See more details about the production in the Neighborhood Calendar on page 29. The renovation which began in December 2011 was finished  on March 7th. Jim Champion said that "when the previous curtained wall came down, they fell in love with the brick walls and decided to leave them exposed." Seventy-five percent of the walls display the brick and the lower twenty five percent now boasts of a very creative wooden log cabin profile.  The Joy Theatre is now a positive addition to the cultural development of Kings Mountain. It can also be rented out to individuals, non-profits, corporations, and even weddings and social functions. To say the least, Joy Theatre is now a major anchor and magnificent addition to downtown Kings Mountain.
