KM event offers "The Spirit of Christmas Past"

The Spirit of Christmas Past is being celebrated at the Kings Mountain Historical Museum (100 East Mountain St.) on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, from
10 a.m.-7 p.m. The day will feature a number of ways to remember and participate in old-fashioned Christmas festivities.
Beginning at 10 a.m., visitors will be able to experience Christmas through the eyes of a child again at the "Toys, Games & TRAINS" exhibit. This annual exhibit fills the museum with model train displays assembled by the Piedmont "S" Gaugers. Miniature snow-covered scenes line the tracks, and interactive features such as a carousel, chocolate factory, hot air balloons, and mailbag pickup are highlights of the exhibit.
Railroad memorabilia along with antique toys and games will also be on display. Parents and grandparents will be able to show children the toys and games of their childhoods, such as cowboy memorabilia, doll houses, and board games. Visitors are encouraged to bring cameras since the exhibit provides great opportunities for holiday family photos.
After reminiscing about toys and trains, visitors can learn about the history of Christmas celebrations as they tour the historic Barber House (located behind the museum at 100 E. Mountain St.), which will be decorated for the holidays. While there, participants can watch traditional craft demonstrations led by 18th century costumed interpreters, and can even make (and keep) their own hand-made ornaments.
For the afternoon hours, the Kings Mountain Christmas parade will wind its way through the downtown area from 3-5 p.m.
To close out the day, from 5-7 p.m. visitors can enjoy a special night run of the "Toys, Games & TRAINS" exhibit as well as candlelight tours of the Barber House, where hot apple cider and cookies will be served by firelight.
