KM hosts concert series, cruise-ins

Summertime means music and cars in Kings Mountain. Three concerts and cruise-ins remain this year in the City of Kings Mountain's Live at Patriots Park Concert Series and Cruise-In.

The series has brought a diverse group of entertainers to the Liberty Falls Amphitheatre in 2022, covering genres such as beach, rhythm & blues, soul and classic rock. It has been "a huge success" for the city since it launched last year, according to KM special events director Christy Conner.

"The only thing that is better than music is live music," says Conner. "In 2021 and now in 2022, we have had a top-notch diverse group of talent to hit the stage. The remaining three bands for this year will not disappoint."

July 16, 2022 Tell Me Lies-The Fleetwood Mac Experience

Opening Act: The Tonez

Formed in 2021, Tell Me Lies covers the iconic music of Fleetwood Mac while paying tribute to legendary band members Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie and John McVie. Heralded as the most authentic Fleetwood Mac tribute band, Tell Me Lies will cover all the band's hits spanning six decades as well as Stevie Nicks' solo hits.

Carolina Beach Music Award winners The Tonez will open the show at 6 p.m. followed by Tell Me Lies at 8 p.m. DJ Eric Bowman will kick off the evening at 5 p.m.

Sept. 10, 2022 Freebird-The Ultimate Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute

Opening Act: Dirty Grass Soul

Freebird's members have been in love with Lynyrd Skynyrd's music since childhood, and the band plays these songs with the same passion and intensity of Lynyrd Skynyrd themselves. If you saw the original lineup in the 1970s you will appreciate the accuracy; if you're just discovering the music for the first time, you'll be blown away by hit after hit of incredible music and amazing players.

Dirty Grass Soul will open the show at 6 p.m. Proudly hailing from the musically rich foothills of Cleveland County, Shelby-based Dirty Grass Soul has been entertaining audiences across the Carolinas and beyond since their formation in 2011. Freebird's performance will follow at 8 p.m.

Oct. 1, 2022 Gabriel Sanchez Presents The Prince Experience

Opening Act: New Local

Since 2002 Gabriel Sanchez has been portraying Prince in his critically acclaimed show The Prince Experience. What started off as a small local theatre production of Purple Rain has expanded into what has become a night of unbelievable entertainment that keeps anyone who has seen it talking long after the last encore is played.

New Local, an award-winning pop/rock band from Charlotte, will open the show at 6 p.m. Led by the soulful lead vocals of Rachel Waldman, this five-piece band is known for their rich harmonies and energetic performances. New Local's mix of pop, rock and blues has solidified them as a Charlotte-area fan favorite.

The "cruise-in" part of the series involves local car enthusiasts who line Railroad Avenue and West Gold Street with their favorite street or stock cars.

"Special guests will be on hand to make these cruise-ins even more special," says Conner.

For the July 16 drive-in, the City of Kings Mountain will welcome NASCAR legends Donnie Allison, Jimmy Means and Tiger Tom Pistone, among others. Each cruise-in starts at 5 p.m. All car makes and models are welcome.

Food and a beverage garden will be available for concert goers each night of the series, as well.

Patriots Park is located at 220 South Railroad Avenue, Kings Mountain.
