Lamuel McRae Lilly

Lamuel McRae Lilly, affectionately known as "Dick," passed away peacefully at his home onMonday, July 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on February 25, 1938, in Raleigh County, West Virginia, Dick was the son of the late Lamuel Cartha Lilly and Mary Ellen Lilly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Lou Morrison and Susan Lilly.

Early in his career, he worked for Executone in Delaware for a number of years before relocating to Shelby, where he retired after over 50 dedicated years as Executive Vice President of Kenneth G. Lilly Fasteners.

He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Shelby and was an avid golfer, an accomplished bread maker, and a lifelong gardener who found great joy in spending time outdoors.

Dick will be remembered most for his deep love for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Donna Lindeman Lilly; his children, James Lilly, Richard Lilly (Melia), John Lilly (Chris), Vicky Galloway (Chris), and Matt Lilly. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Randell Haynes (Melissa), Taylor Galloway, Lauren Sherbert (Trevor), Catherine Lilly, Matthew Lilly, Tristen Robinette, Lexie Greene, Tucker Greene, and Chase Holland.

Dick was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Landon, Vivian, Anna Kate and soon to arrive, Lilly. He also leaves behind his special cat, Buster.

A Visitation with the family will be held Saturday, August 8th, 2026 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Cecil Burton Funeral Home in Shelby, NC, followed by the celebration of life in the chapel from 2:00pm to 3:00pm,officiated by his nephew, Rev. Dr. William Ross. A private committal for the family will follow the service at the columbarium at Ascension Lutheran Church in Shelby.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love, prayers, and support, and especially VIA/Hospice for the compassionate care, support, and kindness shown to them throughout this difficult time.
