Larry Dean Hosch

Larry Dean Hosch, aged 68, passed away peacefully at VIA Health Partners Hospice in Shelby, NC, on May 05, 2025.

He was born on August 21, 1957, in Shelby, North Carolina (N.C.), to the late Willie Felton Hosch, Sr., and Pattie Mae Hosch.
After graduating from Shelby High School in 1974,Larry enlisted in the United States Army and served in Kentucky, Giessen, Germany, and Fort Ord, CA. He also continued his service as a North Carolina Army National Guard Recruiter in Charlotte, NC, and a member of the North Carolina Guard Association, retiring after nearly 30 years with the rank of Sergeant 1stClass.
Later, Larry continued his education at Cleveland Community College and Pfeiffer University, eventually earning a degree in Business Administration from Gardner-Webb College, which is now known as Gardner-Webb University.
He was a devoted member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Shelby, N.C., and was ordained as a deacon under the stewardship of Rev. Dr. S.A. Raper, continuing his dedication and service under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Lamont Littlejohn.
Larry's dedication to civic service organizations spanned local, state, and national levels. He earned a 33rd-degree distinction from Black Eagle 33rd Club, NC serving as past Worshipful Master, past High Priest of Calvin Hill Royal Arch Chapter # 1 in Lawndale, N.C., and Worthy Patron of Elizabeth Chapter # 3 Order of Eastern Star in Lawndale, N.C.
State civic positions included Grand Treasurer, St. James Grand Lodge, Bessemer City, N.C., Past Grand High Priest Clavin Hill Royal Arch Chapter, N.C., Recorder, St. John Grand Consistory, Recorder, Salem Grand Shrine Temple, and Secretary General of Black Eagle Club 33rd-degree. He was also a former Joshua and Royal Patron for Female Department N.C., and Chairman for the Grand Session of N.C, and a member of St. John Knights Templar, N.C.Larry was also a member and supporter of the DAV Byers Moorhd GLV # 18, Shelby, N.C.
In addition, Larry was one of the first Lifetime members of the Black Political Caucus in Charlotte, N.C., where he served as 1st Vice Chair, was a dedicated member of the Get Out to Vote committeeand was a key contributor to their 50th Anniversary Celebration. He also held positions as a member of the NAACP and as Commander of American Legion Post #380. Larry continued to devote himself to various communities until his declining health led to his earthly transition.
At the national level, Larry was a member of the National Turtle Club and a former Assistant Business Manager for The Imperial Council for Shriners, U.S.A., and The Commonwealth of the Bahamas and Caribbean.
Larry enjoyed flea markets, collecting various keepsakes, gardening, and cooking for family and friends. Known as a natural leader, Larry exemplified a career and life rooted in commitment to family, community, equity, and thoughtful leadership. His past contributions and advocacy remain an inspiration to those who value life, compassion, collaboration, service, and community building.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ferrin Robinson; sister, Mary Mintz, and brother, Roy Hosch.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, April Terry Hosch; daughter, Shamirish Kenyona Terrill (Zavier) of Gastonia, N.C.; son, Larry Daishon Hosch (Nadia) of Hiram, GA; four brothers, Cornelius Hosch of Shelby, N.C., Willie Hosch of Lattimore, N.C., Wayne Hosch (Gail) of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Terry Hosch of Fayetteville, GA; three sisters, Yvonnia Hosch-Morgan and Kathryn Harris (Belvie) both of Shelby, N.C. and Willie Lou Pettis of Kingstown, N.C.; two loving grandchildren; a devoted and caring sister-in-law, Dorothy Hosch of Shelby, N.C.; brothers-in-law, Gene Mintz and Gregory Tanks of Fayetteville, GA and fur grand-baby, Braxton Hosch of Hiram, GA. Larry also leaves many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends to cherish his memory.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Entombment will be at Cleveland Memorial Park.
