Mr. Larry Wayne Davis, 64, of Shelby, NC passed away February 17, 2013 at his residence. A native of Cleveland County, he is the son of the late Jeff William Davis and Rachel Traylor Davis. Larry worked and later retired from the Department of Transportation after 30 years as an equipment supervisor. He loved coaching football. Larry had coached for the elementary school program, Pop Warner, Crest Middle School, Crest High School JV and Cherryville High School. He also coached baseball. He had coached for the city park and served as an umpire. Larry had most recently enjoyed helping with his grandson’s baseball team. He had also served as a referee for basketball. He was a loyal Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees fan. He also loved to play golf. He was a loving father and husband and always put God and his family first. Larry was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church where he had served on the Deacon Board as Chairman and also as a Sunday school teacher for the Tom Jolley class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Leroy Wynn and sister-in-law, Remetta Sharpe.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Cheryl Duncan Davis of the home; three sons, Todd Davis and wife Laura, Eric Davis and Kyle Travis all of Shelby; one daughter, Ryan Legere and husband Michael of Charleston, SC; one brother, Royce Davis and wife Nancy of Shelby; one sister, Joyce Gibbs and husband Tom of Shelby; mother-in-law, Joyce Wynn of McAdenville; two sister-in-laws, Vicki Tucker and husband Greg of Gastonia and Cheryll Shull and husband Kenny of Iron Station; two brother-in-laws, Del Wynn and wife Karen of Belmont and Leroy Wynn and wife Janice of Boiling Springs, SC; four grandchildren, Kaleb Davis, Alex, Sarah and Max Cherry; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends, Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 6:00 till 7:30PM
