Lauris Blalock Wray, 99, of Shelby passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Wendover Hospice House surrounded by her devoted family.

Born January 15, 1918, she was a native of Cleveland County and the daughter of Clyde and Annie Belle Blalock. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, George Wray; sisters, Ella Mae Montgomery Weaver, Alma McGinnis Bailey, Amaryllis Lyons, Fay Ormand, Ruby McCoy and a brother, Roy Blalock.

SURVIVORS:

Loving son Ted Anthony and wife Cara of Shelby; granddaughters, Kelly Anthony, Kesha Hobbs and husband Buddy, Kristina Fortenberry and husband Scott, all of Shelby; great-grandchildren Aaron Carpenter and wife Linda of Durham, Alexa Carpenter Shull and husband Will of Charlotte, Lewis Hobbs of Cullowhee, Christian Carpenter, Alesha Hobbs, Patrick Hobbs, A.R.Fortenberry and Austin Fortenberry, all of Shelby. She is also survived by her sister Lib Parker Whitesides and husband Gene of Lincolnton.

She began working in a textile mill at the age of 14 and continued working in that industry for 60 years.

Known by most as "Granny", she was selflessly devoted to her family and, in return was greatly treasured by every family member as well as those she encountered. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She will be remembered for her wisdom, her laughter, her hospitality and generosity. She enjoyed spending time outdoors working in her yard and creating beautiful flower gardens.

FUNERAL SERVICE:

The funeral will be held Saturday, April 8, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1017 Bethlehem Road Kings Mountain at 11:00am. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Dr. Steve Taylor and Priscilla Walker officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family would like to thank the loving staff at Wendover Hospice House. She was cared for with grace and dignity during the final days of her live. Memorials may be made to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby NC 28150.
