Lavanda Hopper

Lavanda Hopper, 69, of Shelby, NC passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, NC.

He was born on January 1, 1952 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Claywood Hopper and the late Edna Charles Hopper.

Lavanda was a graduate of Shelby High School. He was retired from the Cleveland County Department of Corrections where he was employed as a correctional officer. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the North State Law Enforcement Officers Association and was a 33rdDegree Mason, as an active member of Providence Lodge 2.

As a child, Lavanda contracted polio but never let that hold him back from doing anything he wanted to do. He was very active in his younger days playing softball, basketball and even bowling. He enjoyed working on cars and lawnmowers and loved gardening.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight Hopper.

Left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Lashonda Rhodes (Tyrance) of Kings Mountain, NC; two brothers, Harold Hopper (Christie) and Harvey Hopper (Vivian); one sister, Deborah Jackson all of Shelby; four grandchildren, Tyrance Rhodes, Jr., Tyliyah Rhodes, Tykiah Rhodes and Tylazha Rhodes; his fiancée, Mary Robinson of Shelby and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Hopper will be private. He can be viewed from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 PM until 1:30 PM at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel on Sunday. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery.
