Legacy Riders pass through Shelby

On August 20, 2019 in conjunction with the American Legion world Series, The American Legion Legacy Riders passed through Shelby, NC. Approximately 500 to 600 motorcycles, stretching about two miles, took part.
This is an annual American Legion event which began in Florida with ultimate destination as Indianapolis which is the site of the 2019 National Convention. Annually the riders collect donations which are placed in a scholarship trust fund for children of fallen warriors. Last year the Legion Riders raised over 1.25 million dollars.
Shelby Police provided an escort for the riders. Members of Shelby Post 82 gathered in downtown Shelby to greet the cyclists, who proceeded to Kings Mountain, where Post 155 treated them to some North Carolina Barbecue. The group spent the night in Gastonia, NC before going on to Indianapolis. The American Legion has been providing scholarships to the children of Fallen Warriors for 14 years.
