Lela Lucille Canipe, 91, of 5709 Fallston Road, Lawndale, NC, passed peacefully on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Hospice of Wendover.

Lucille was born on March 11, 1933, to the late Cletus and Wilma Cook of Dirty Ankle. She graduated from Belwood High School in 1951. She married her sweetheart, Bobby Ray Canipe, on April 12, 1952, and together they celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary earlier this year.
She was employed by Hudson Hosiery in Shelby and Shadowline in Fallston, where she retired in 1998 after 45 years. Lucille was a lifelong member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School Secretary for 50 years, receiving an award for her service in 2022.
In her spare time, she loved to quilt and sew, work in the garden with her husband, can what they grew, and take care of her yard and flower beds. She loved cooking and cleaning, talking with her friends, reading her Bible and caring for her family. She was loved, and will be missed, by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Rita Canipe Davis; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Chapman and husband, Parksie, Maxine Taylor and husband, Carol, and Faye Ledford and husband, Major Lee (M.L.); a brother, Ray Cook; a brother-in-law, John Swink; a nephew, Bobby Ledford; and numerous other relatives.
Along with her loving husband, Bobby Ray Canipe, she leaves her grandson, Christopher Wayne Davis and his wife, Amanda; a great-grandson, Spencer Davis; and a great-granddaughter, Liliana Davis, all of the home, and great-granddaughter Ashley Davis and her fiancé, Cody Denson, of Spartanburg, SC; son, Michael Canipe, of Crouse, NC; a grandson, Ayden Canipe, of Crouse, NC; sisters-in-law, Linda Cook and Margaret Swink; nieces Nina Greene and husband, David, Pat Wilson and husband, Phillip, Connie Vasquez and husband, Jose, and Sherry Thomas; nephews Ronnie Taylor, Danny Taylor, John Swink, Jr. and Jim Swink; and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 2:00pm at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Allan Barlow officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
