Leroy L. Dyer

Leroy L. Dyer, 95, of Shelby, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at his home surrounded by family. Born on March 10, 1930, in Blacksburg, South Carolina, Leroy lived a long and meaningful life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and enduring passions.

Leroy was a lifelong resident of Cleveland County and was self-employed for much of his career as a home builder. Known for his business acumen and strong work ethic, he took great pride in building affordable homes that would shelter generations of families--leaving a lasting imprint on the community he loved.

One of Leroy's greatest joys throughout his life was shooting pool. More than a pastime, it was a lifelong passion that reflected his steady hand, focus, and quiet competitive spirit. The pool table was where he relaxed, connected with others, and found simple pleasure.

Leroy was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Dyer, Sr.; his mother, Leo Wade Dyer; his stepmother, Annie Robinson Dyer; his sister, Lorene Dyer Hopper; and his brothers, Lester Dyer, Fred Dyer, Lawrence Dyer, Jr., Johnny Dyer, and Frank Dyer.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Dyer, with whom he shared 74 years of marriage--a remarkable testament to love, commitment, and partnership. He is also survived by his three children, Roy Dyer (Glenda), Debbie Weathers (Doug), and Sherry Murray (Gerald); his brothers, Arthur Dyer, Richard Dyer, Dean Dyer, and James Dyer; his sister, Ruth Dyer Eaker; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends and family at Cleveland Funeral Services and Crematory, 2518 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, North Carolina, on February 17, 2026, from 12:00 - 1:00 pm; a Memorial Service will be held in the in the Funeral Services Chapel at 1:00pm.

Burial will follow the Memorial Service at Cleveland Memorial Park, 1225 College Avenue, Shelby, North Carolina.

Leroy will be remembered for his quiet strength, thriftiness, love of the game of pool, and above all, his unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the generations that follow him.
