Lillie Dawkins Beam
Mrs. Lillie Dawkins Beam, 82 of 1406 Vantage Drive, Shelby, NC crossed the finish line and received her eternal reward on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at her home with her children and grandchildren cheering her on.

She was born on December 5, 1929 to the late Freeman and Hattie B. Dawkins and raised in Cleveland County, NC.  Lillie was a faithful member of Ellis Chapel Baptist Church for 16 years where she served faithfully on the Hymn Choir.

Lillie was a graduate of Camp High School and attended North Carolina A&T State University.  Lillie had a heart for piano music and could hear a song once and play it back exactly as she heard it.  She played for various churches and choirs over the years until a stroke left her partially paralyzed, and she could no longer use her left hand and foot.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Evens C. Beam, Jr. step-daughter, Betty Petty and two sisters, Elnora Beam and Ophelia Surratt.

She leaves to cherish very fond memories, her sons, James C. Beam of the home; Steven C. Beam of Gastonia, NC and Nelson C. Beam (Teressa) of Winston-Salem, NC; three daughters, Marilyn B. Spencer of Shelby, Lillian “Faye” Beam of the home and Jacqueline “Jackie” B. Woody (Michael) of Shelby; a “special” step-daughter, Gladys B. Hill (Ted) of Lawndale, NC; two brothers, Elder Z.A. Dawkins (Sandra) of High Point, NC and Benjamin Dawkins (Ethel) of Shelby; a sister, Hattie B. Hall of Shelby; ten grandchildren, Sparkle B. Cassell (Jamaa), Marcus Crank, Brandon Crank (Tiffany), Bethany Crank, Cameron Beam, Nicholas Beam, Christopher Beam, Joshua Beam, Hannah Beam and Jalen Campbell, whom she accepted as her biological grandson; six great-grandchildren, Zaria, Zaire, Zariah and Ziana Cassell, Kassidy Hemphill and Trinity Crank; a special friend of over 70 years, Beudel Ponder and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church with Minister Rose Corry officiating.  Burial will take place at the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:00 PM at the church on Tuesday and at other times at the home of her daughter, Jackie Woody, 1308 Hunt St. and at Ms. Beam’s residence.

Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloes.net.  Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements
