Lilly Carolyn (Peak) Perry

Lilly Carolyn (Peak) Perry, transitioned to her eternal home on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. She was the fourth of nine children born to William Peak Sr. (decd.) and Mary Gertrude Phelps-Peak (decd.) on November 9, 1941, in Shelby, North Carolina. Her early Christian experiences were nurtured at the Hoppers Chapel Baptist Church and later the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Shelby where she used her gift of singing. She traveled with her siblings - known as "The Peak Sisters" later called "The Spiritualetts" and they were managed by their father. Their singing opened doors for them throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia; and you could hear them on Sunday mornings on the local radio station. Carolyn continued to sing and honed her love of what is now named "call and response" gospel.

After attending Cleveland High School, Carolyn moved to Baltimore, Maryland to assist her older sister in the rearing of her children. Carolyn married in 1963 and made her home in Maryland. She was the consummate home maker; and made that role a work of art, while looking out for her husband and beloved dog- Bambi.

Once she realized her gift and flare for decorating, Carolina decided to study Interior Design and Decorating; and specialized in window treatment. To earn her license, she worked at Custom Made Drapes, Inc. as a Designer. After earning her Interior Designer license, Carolyn became a free-lance Designer with customers in four states on the east coast. She was always able to find good employment and worked at NSA - Ft. Meade, MD; and later retired from Godard Air Space Flight Center - Lanham, MD.

The joy of Carolyn's life was family and she enjoyed entertaining them when they visited. As God would have it, she later became the mother of Marcus Lamar Perry, whom she loved dearly. When Marcus was age 5 Carolyn decided that she wanted to raise him in the place that she was raised, so she moved back to Shelby, NC. When returning, Caroline immediately became active in Church joining the Hopper's Chapel Baptist Church, and later Faith Missionary Baptist Church singing on the choir at both Churches.

Carolyn loved life, and consistently did life on her own terms. She loved family and people in general. Whenever you visited Carolyn, she was always wanting you to leave with something or to never leave. She loved decorating, and whenever you went by her home, you could witness the outside decorated according to the season, or an inside home improvement project done with her own hands. She would always have good food cooking and was an ecstatic chef if you ate something. Her love for animals was contagious, and that can be seen by visiting any of her relatives which each have an extension of one of her animals.

Carolyn is and will be forever missed, because of her abundant love, her commitment to being true, her love for God, and her animated love for life.

Carolyn was proceeded in death by her father, William Peak, Sr. (1978); her mother, Mary Gertrude Phelps-Peak (1991); her grand-son - Marcus Lamar Perry, Jr (2018) two sisters: Mary Magdalene Peak (2002) and Ethel May Lockhart (2009); and two brothers: William Peak, Jr. (1979) and James Edward Peak (2013).
