Linda Bowen Putnam

Linda Bowen Putnam, age 95, died Thursday, July 5, 2018 at White Oak Manor, Shelby. Born May 21, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Jesse North Bowen and Cora Etta Allen Bowen. She was a long time member of Elizabeth Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for the four-year-old class for decades. She was also an Art Instructor for the Cleveland Community College Continuing Education Program, as well as being an award winning sales representative for Avon cosmetics. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, and painting, and she won several awards for the pieces she created. She shared her love of art with children, whom she loved to teach painting. Linda was also a long time member and past President of the Shelby Optimist Club. She will be remembered for her humor and always wanted to have a new joke to tell her friends and loved ones.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband David C. Putnam, Sr.; one granddaughter, Anna Grace Putnam; two brothers, Mitchell Bowen and Herman Bowen; as well as three sisters, Vergie Ledford, Malage Wellmon, and Violet Jones.

Linda is survived by her two sons, David Putnam, Jr. and wife Jill of Shelby, and Steve Putnam and wife Michele of Shelby; four grandchildren: Carson Putnam; Kayley Starling and husband Tyler; Sam Putnam and wife Meg; and Abby Putnam. One great-grandson, Eli Starling, is expected in September. Linda is also survived by one sister-in-law and many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 3 pm Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Dr. Rit Varriale and Rev. Clint Padgett officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 pm until 3 pm in the church sanctuary. Burial in Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery will follow the service.
