Lizzie Mae Battle McDowell

Mrs. Lizzie Mae Battle McDowell, 73, of 350 Washburn Switch Road Shelby, NC passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at her residence. She was born on July 26, 1947 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Early Battle, Sr. and the late Rev. Elizabeth Thompson Battle.

Lizzie graduated from Crest High School. She held an Associate's degree in Christian Education from Apex School of Theology as well as an Early Child Care Education which she obtained at Cleveland Community College. She also was a licensed cosmetologist.

Lizzie was a member of Light Oak Baptist Church where she served as secretary, member of the usher board, deaconess, Senior Missionary board, care ministry, jail ministry, Senior Choir member and was a life time member of the NAACP. She worked for ORA Mills for 15 years as well as PPG for 20 years before opening her own business, TJAK Day Care.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Leon McDowell; five brothers, John Joseph Battle, Danny Jerome Battle, Robert Lee Battle, and Early Battle Jr. and James Willis Battle and two sisters, Odessa Battle Taylor and Matilda Battle.

She leaves to cherish many fond memories to her husband of 55 years, William McDowell, Sr. two sons, William McDowell, Jr (Carlotta) of Grover NC and John Michael McDowell of Shelby, NC; two daughters, Senora McDowell Walker(William) and Andera Yvette McDowell both of Shelby; one brother, Eddie Battle; sisters, Christine Norris (Edward) of Mooresboro NC; Shelia Battle and Marie Jackson (Terry) of Forest City, NC; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Rufus Parker (Ruth), Louise McDowell, Don Johnson (Inez), Vincent Kelly (Johnnie), Bobby Joe McDowell (Penny) and Willie McDowell (Donna) and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends including one special sister "Carolyn Haynes".

Funeral services for Mrs. McDowell will be private. The service will be livestreamed on Facebook starting at 12:45 PM on Friday, April 9, 2021. She can be viewed from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday, April 9, 2021 at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. The family will be receiving friends from 12: 30 PM until 1:00 PM at Light Oak Baptist Church on Friday, April 9, 2021. Burial will take place at Palmer Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
