"Lloyd E. Clark, he died" is the obituary our stubborn father penned for publication. Unfortunately for him, he raised two equally stubborn children who cannot let their father pass without sharing just a little bit more about this remarkable man. Lloyd Elwin Clark was born September 6, 1934, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Otis Elmer Clark and Ruby Pearl Poundstone. He spent his youth in Stonington, Illinois until the age of eighteen when he joined the Marines during the Korean conflict. After his service he landed a job at Commerce Clearing House in Chicago where he met his wife, Lorraine Edna Skibbe. Dad claims that mom seduced him with a pot roast and a game of "Chess." Dad helped mom take care of her father who suffered from dementia by collecting rents in the South and Northwest areas of Chicago, aiding in his care, and working full-time. Eventually, dad landed an entry job at the Northern Trust Bank in Chicago. Promoted through the ranks, dad eventually became the Vice President of the Probate Department, later moving first to Phoenix and then to Tucson, Arizona. Dad retired in 1996 after thirty-five years of service and moved to Concord, North Carolina and finally to Kings Mountain, North Carolina. He volunteered at the homeless shelter in Shelby and much to the dismay of several restaurant owners would invite his homeless friends to join him and his wife for a meal. He lovingly cared for his wife as she progressed with her fight against Alzheimer's and dementia and kept his promise to keep her home as long as possible. Lloyd never met an animal he didn't like and was surrounded by dogs and cats throughout his life. His last faithful dog, Bear, passed several weeks before his death.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and one granddaughter, Jessica Fay. He leaves behind Lorraine Clark, the love of his life and his wife of 61 years, his son Matthew Clark (Holli) Shelby, North Carolina, daughter Amy Urman (Gary) Tucson, AZ, grandchildren Nick Urman (Sibel Dunzeli), Juliana Urman, Anna Claire Urman (Jeremy Cruz Asher), Gavin Goforth, Jon Goforth, Grace Clark, Kaylin Clark and great grandson Lincoln Escalera Urman, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by innumerable "adopted" children including Kandis Alexoff, Wanda Porter, and Ed Phillips whom he extended his love to and they became a part of his family. Also regarded as family is Lorene Rogers who for the last seventeen years has been the best next-door neighbor anyone could want or hope for.
