Local Civil Air Patrol cadets spend night aboard historic USS Yorktown

Cadets from the Shelby Composite Squadron Civil Air Patrol recently walked in the steps of country's heroes while participating in the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum's camping program aboard the historic World War II aircraft carrier USS Yorktown on Charleston Harbor.
During the trip, the group became "shipmates" while touring the museum's three 70 year old warships: the USS Yorktown, World War II destroyer USS Laffey, and Cold War submarine USS Clamagore. The group also learned about the Vietnam War in the museum's new interactive, Vietnam Experience. The exhibit is a 2.5 acre recreation of a Brown Water Naval Support Base and marine Fire Artillery Base.
These cadets also participated in a flight program, slept on the ship, and ate evening and morning meals served just like they were decades ago to the ship's sailors while at sea. It was a great experience for these youth!
Patriots Point, is on the Charleston Harbor in Mount Pleasant, SC and home to the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum and fleet of National Historic Landmark ships as well as the having the only Vietnam Support Base Camp recreation. For more information visit www.patriotspoint.org.
