Communities throughout Cleveland County embodied the spirit of America's Birthday during the 2015 July 4th weekend.
In Lattimore, following their big parade, activities and entertainment were held at Lattimore Baptist Church. Singing of the National Anthem and a special recognition of veterans kicked off the afternoon salute to America. The festivities included a children's balloon toss, great biscuits, hot dogs, drinks and homemade desserts. The crowd stayed well fed and dry inside the church's fellowship hall. They stomped and clapped to live music performed by the award winning Darin and Brooke Aldridge along with their band. It was an uplifting experience. All the proceeds went to funding youth activities and their summer camp.
Meanwhile, Mooresboro got ready for their party and evening fireworks. At Moss Lake the annual patriotic boat parade gathered at Snake Island and circled the lake with over 20 boats adorned with red, white and blue decorations.
Later in Casar at the Casar Park, it was a 12 hour celebration of God Bless America! Starting at 10 a.m. and concluding with a great fireworks display at 10 p.m. This year's highlight was the dedication of the town's new Veterans Memorial. It features the names of veterans from the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and persons that have served in every conflict from Casar up to the present. Contributions are now being solicited to help fund a permanent memorial plaque that will be erected at the park. If you would like to be a part of the great memorial, you can contribute by calling Sharon Moses, Event Coordinator, at 704-473-5739. They are seeking to raise $10,000 to complete the memoriall.
