Local Playwright chosen for Live Performance and Broadcast in Florida
Ludy Wilkie
A radio script by local playwright Ludy Wilkie has been chosen for live performance and broadcast in Florida.
Wilkie prepared both a stage and broadcast version of his play “The Last Radio Drama.” The broadcast version is scheduled for production by The Radio Theatre Project in St. Petersburg, Florida. There will be a live reading on October 21st followed by broadcast on WMNF, a non-commercial, listener supported station in the Tampa Bay Area at a later date. The broadcast will then be added to the archives of Radio Theatre Project and will be available to the public on their website, www.radiotheatreproject.org. The name of the venue is The Studio @ 620.
The play tells how the cast of a radio soap opera in 1960 tries to persuade the network not to cancel their show. Other works by Wilkie which have been produced locally include The Ballad of Nancy Hanks, by the Rutherford Community Theatre and Diary of Faust by the Rutherford County Arts Council and Crest High School. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild; a co-founder of Lost Playwrights of Western North Carolina; and secretary of Greater Shelby Community Theatre.
