Local students attend Boys State Program

Two Cleveland County Students recently attended the 80th annual American Legion Boys State Program. Thomas Hicks, a rising senior at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, is the son of Jonathan and Dawn Hicks of Shelby. Christopher Richardson, a rising senior at Crest High, is the son of Lorenzo and Andrea Richardson of Shelby. They were sponsored by Shelby American Legion Post 82. The program emphasizes learning by having students participate in a model state, complete with governing bodies and elected officials. Christopher was elected chief justice of the state supreme court and Thomas Hicks served as a city mayor.
The program was held at Catawba College.
