Lois Gamble Blanton, 80, died April 22, 2017 at Testa Family Hospice House. She was born January 16, 1937 in Kings Mountain, NC to Leonard F. and Ruth Eaker Gamble, both deceased. She was also the step-daughter of the late Tom Mayhew of Shelby. A son Tim Blanton, died at the age of 14 in 1977.

Surviving are Howard Blanton, husband, and a daughter and husband, Lori and Charles Cruse of Raleigh. Four grandchildren survive: Travis Cruse, Dylan Cruse, Bethany Cruse, and Grayson Cruse. Also, one sister, Barbara Hawkins and husband, Garth, and two step-brothers: Tom (Judy) Mayhew and Lee (Pam) Mayhew of Shelby. Also surviving are two sisters-in law, Dixie Blanton and Bea Blanton.

During her teen years, Lois was active in the 4-H Club, winning local and state awards. She was inducted into the NC State 4-H Club society. She graduated from Bethware High School and Brevard College.

The Blantons were married 59 years and spent 20 years traveling across the United States and living one year in Scotland while Howard was in the US Navy. She retired from Duke Divinity School in 1999 as Administrative Assistant to the Dean.

Lois was an active member of the Kings Mountain Woman's Club, and El Bethel United Methodist Church which is where the funeral service will be held Monday April 24, 2017 at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 pm prior to the service. The Rev. Bruce Hobson and Rev. Julie Roberts will conduct the service.

Interment will be at El Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
