Lon Amickle Canipe Jr.
Lon Amickle Canipe Jr. passed away Sunday January 20, 2013 at Autumn Care in Drexel.

Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late L. A. Canipe, Sr. and Essie Botts Canipe.

Lon was also preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Edna Boyles Canipe, five brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Propst Hamrick- Canipe, step-son, Joel Hamrick of Belwood and numerous nephews and nieces.

Lon faithfully served his country during World War II as a Technical Sergeant and Platoon Sergeant during battle.  Lon was captured in Italy and was a Prisoner of War in Moosburg, Germany at Stalag 7-A.  He received the Bronze Star, American Theater Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and Prisoner of War Medal.  After returning from the war Lon worked for Drexel Heritage Furniture as a Quality Control Engineer for 34 years unit his retirement.
Lon was a devoted member of St. Peters United Methodist Church where he held
various offices and taught Sunday school.  His church and his faith were a
very important part of his life.  Lon was a membr of the American Legion
Post 302 for over 60 years and also a member of the Foothills Ex-POW Group
where he served as Vice President. Lon was a friend to all he met and loved
by everyone who knew him.

Visitation: 2:00 until 3:00PM  Tuesday at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston.

Funeral service: 3:00PM Tuesday at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
Kathy Earley officiating.

Burial:  Rose Hill Memorial Park with Military Graveside Rites.
