Louise Hollifield Petty (Maw-maw), 93, of Ellenboro passed peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. She was born on January 19, 1924 to Joseph and Josephine Wilson Hollifield. Louise earned her degree in hard work as she grew up share cropping and competing with her siblings for who could pick cotton the fastest. Growing up, some of her favorite memories with siblings and friends were playing Ante Over, a game that starts with one team throwing a ball over a house followed by lots of fun, and the yearly mule-powered wagon ride to the Ellenboro Fair. Her hard work continued in textiles, primarily at Ora Mill Company, where she took pride in training some of the company's first African-American employees. Maw-maw put the green in thumb and could cook a country meal for the ages. She also enjoyed romance novels, particularly Danielle Steele novels. Louise was a good friend and a good neighbor and carried her sharp wit to the end.

Twice widowed, she is preceded by Walter Crowe and Thomas Petty - both of which made for wonderful marriages; her siblings Ruby, Juanita, Pete and Lawrence; and stepson Hugh.

Louise is survived by her sisters Evelyn, Myrtle and Barbara; stepson Glenn; daughters-in-law Beth, Joan and Ruth; grandchildren Sarah, Jim, and especially David; who has been her care taker and confidant during her later years; great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, especially Sheila and Mike Hutchins, who have also contributed to her well-being during her later years; and her many friends and neighbors, particularly her first husband's family.

Funeral service will be Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11:00am at Sandy Plains Baptist Church with Rev. Chase Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am in the church fellowship hall.
