Luther Thompson "Tom" Houser
Luther Thompson "Tom" Houser passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Blanche Houser. He is survived by his sisters, Ann Newton of Cherryville, N. C. and Brenda Stewart (Richard) of Cayce, SC.; nieces and nephews, Mary McSwain, Charles and Louise Newton and Kim, Ellen, and Jim Stewart; and special great nieces and nephews, Tripp, John, Mary Beth, Meg, Lance, Charlie Elizabeth, Mike and Harrison. Tom was born on June 14, 1944 in Lincolnton, NC. As a youth he was active in school and sports, graduating from Cherryville High School in 1962. Tom graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1966 with a degree in Marketing. He was an avid "Gamecock" fan while at USC. He was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity where he met his life-long best friends Jack Brandon, Tom Cromer, and Andy Fowler. He was also a Veteran having served in the National Guard.
Tom began his working career in banking and moved from banking into business equipment sales before spending most of his professional career in medical equipment sales. Tom lived in Asheville, NC; Atlanta, Georgia; Boston, Massachusetts; and Myrtle Beach, SC for the bulk of his working life. He retired to the Columbia, SC area and was working part-time in electronic sales at the time of his death.
A visitation will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church on Thursday, April 13th from 12:30 to 1:45 PM. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM officiated by Pastor John Propst. Burial will be private at St. John's at a later date.
