Lutz, A Southern Champ In 24 Months
Tennis champ Natalie Lutz is pictured among her many championship trophies won this year and is holding her championship plate for the USTA Southern Title.
Natalie Lutz, a rising fifth grader at Kings Mountain Intermediate School, had never been on a tennis court until two years ago. She’s ten years old, a natural, and has quickly become a tennis star. Her teacher and coach is Scott Handback, the tennis pro at Cleveland Country Club. In addition to all the trophies and tournaments she has won, Natalie just captured her biggest prize of all by winning  the 2011 United States Tennis Association Southern Closed Tennis Championship for Girls’ 10s Singles, held in Columbia, S.C. on June 17. Natalie  won the title without losing a set. The USTA Southern Championship is the highest title a 10 year old can receive in the region. Unbelievably, this past year Natalie has played in over thirty matches in Girls’ 10s throughout the southeast and didn’t lose a set or match. She has achieved a national ranking in Girls’ 12 and under of 122. In the state of North Carolina, Natalie is ranked #1 and #1 in the Southern Region which covers nine states. – Photo by Robert Lutz
