| Lynda Kay Duncan Jones, 71, of Brookwood Drive, Shelby, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 21 with her children by her side. Kay was a devoted wife, loving mother, and beloved grandmother. She personified strength, kindness, and great peace all the days of her life.
Kay was born on August 4, 1940 and was the daughter of William Grant and Moree Johnson Duncan. She was a devoted wife for 42 years to her husband, Bobby Gene Jones, until his death in May 2000. Kay was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church and attended Sunday services until she could no longer drive. She loved her church and looked forward to Sundays.
She is survived by her three children, Terrie Jones Toms of Lattimore, Robert Michael Jones of West Palm Beach, Florida, and John Judson Jones also of West Palm Beach, Florida; son-in-law, Rick Toms; four grandchildren, Katie Marie Toms of Greensboro, Emily Clara Toms of Greensboro, Abby Susannah Toms of Lattimore, and Pamela Jane Toms of Lattimore; two devoted sisters, Doris Duncan and Elizabeth Duncan Reid, both of Shelby; three brothers Wayne Duncan of Tryon, Bill Duncan of Boiling Springs, and Craig Duncan of Shelby; two sisters-in-law, LaVonda Jones Lovelace of Shelby, and Lynn Jones Ledford of Hampton, Va; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank all of the exceptionally wonderful staff at Hospice for their loving attention and care they gave to Kay. They were wonderful.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Elizabeth Baptist Church. The Rev. Clint Padgett and Rev. Kathryn Spangler will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:30pm on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Cecil M Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. The family, at other times, will be at the home of LaVonda Lovelace at 903 West Elm Street Shelby.
