Mae Ruth Scruggs Moss

Mrs. Mae Ruth Scruggs Moss, age 95 of Shelby, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 5, 2017 at her residence.

She was born on October 21, 1921 in Cliffside, NC to the late James S. and Minnie Blackwell Scruggs. She was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church and was a garment inspector. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband of 60 years, Thomas "Tom" L. Moss, Sr.; one son, Thomas "Tommy" L. Moss, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Mary F. Moss; son-in-law, J. L. Morehead, Jr.; two sisters, Ruby S. Bridges and Louise S. Elmore; and one brother, Mason Scruggs.

Mrs. Moss is survived by one daughter, Janice M. Morehead (J.L.) of Shelby; one grandson, Jamie K. Rhyne of Greenville, SC; granddaughters, Nickie M. Wright (Paul) of Shelby, Debbie R. Blankenship (Grant) of Macon, GA, Juli R. Ward (Bill) of Greer, SC, and Angela M. Williams (David) of Morganton, NC; great-grandchildren, Hunter L. Wright of Shelby, Henry T. Blankenship of Macon, GA, Stella Blankenship of Macon, GA, Justin Williams (Ashley) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Sarah Williams of Chicago, IL; one sister-in-law, Laladge J. Moss (Leland) of Earl, NC; one brother-in-law, James A. Moss; numerous nieces and nephews; her cat named Molly; and her dog named P.J.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at Mount Sinai Baptist Church. The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00pm with Pastor Tim Trexler to officiate. Special Music will be provided by the church choir. Graveside service and interment will follow at Stateline Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Paul A. Wright, Jamie K. Rhyne, David Williams, Bill Ward, Grant Blankenship, Hunter Wright, and Henry Blankenship.
