Maggie Silver Melton, age 78, of Harris, NC, died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Maggie was born June 17, 1934 in Rutherford County, NC to the late William Hicks Silver and Lola McDaniel Silver. She worked at Spindale Mills and for Dan River Mills for many years. She was a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church and enjoyed NASCAR and traveling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Odell Walter Blanton; one brother, Melvin Silver and two sisters, Georgia Nance and Flora Revels.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Wayne Blanton and wife, Shelley of Harris; one daughter, Debra Blanton Kiser and husband, Clarence William of Forest City; a special sister-in-law, Hazel Silver of Marion, NC; three grandchildren, Lucas Blanton, Frankie Rose and Kara Sims; six great grandchildren, Nicholas Sims, Garrett Sims, Tori Rose, Aleah Rose, Vanessa Blanton and Lucas Blanton, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Edward Ellison officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
