Margaret Stamey Royster

Margaret Stamey Royster, 101, of Lawndale, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021 at her home.

Born in Cleveland County, on October 31, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Robert Franklin Stamey and Annie Mae Alexander Stamey.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Clemmie Lee Royster, Jr.; three brothers, Dr. Rev. Robert Stamey (Thelma), Bill Stamey (Carolyn), and Rev. Ben Stamey; and three sisters, Eliza S. Ross (Claude, Sr.), Katherine S. Nelson (Howard), and Betty S. Simpson (Robert); son-in-law Clyde E. Scism, Jr.; daughter-in-law Deborah E. Royster.

She is survived by her son, Edwin Royster of Lawndale; daughter, Nancy Crotts and husband, Tim of Lawndale; three grandchildren, Nelson Royster and Matthew Royster of Lawndale, and Caroline Margaret Scism of Nashville, TN; a brother, Gilbert Stamey (Nancy) of Chapel Hill, NC; many beloved nieces and nephews, and wonderful caregivers she considered family, Susie Wallace, Misty Johnson, and Donna Williams.

Margaret's life was devoted to her family, extended family, and community. She was a retired teacher from Cleveland County Schools after graduating from Asheville Normal and Teachers College with a bachelor's degree in education. She was always interested in the lives of her former students. Along with her husband, Margaret co-operated Royster Turkey Farm, Inc. She was a devoted servant of Jesus Christ at Polkville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was active in the United Methodist Women. Margaret's interests included genealogy and community history, cooking, and basket weaving.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Rose Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Bill Lovelace and Rev. Arthur Holland. The family will greet friends after the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be sent to Polkville United Methodist Church, PO Box 9, Polkville NC 28136.
