Marilyn Mauney Griffin transitioned to her eternal home in heaven on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 10:29 PM at Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital. She was 88 years old.Born on May 29, 1937, in Shelby, North Carolina, Marilyn was the second of three children born to the late Lucille and Larkin Mauney. She was educated in the Cleveland County School System and graduated from Douglas High School in 1955 in Lawndale, NC.

Marilyn was a woman of refined taste and deeply appreciated beautiful clothing, elegant jewelry, and classic perfumes. She believed in quality over quantity and carried herself with grace and sophistication. In 2015, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by traveling to Paris, where she joyfully immersed herself in the city's fashion and luxury.Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and elegance. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Griffin, her brother Harold Mauney, and a special aunt and uncle, Ruth Hoyle and Thomas B. Elmore.She is survived by her devoted daughter, Cheryl Lynn Griffin of Charlotte, NC; two beloved grandchildren, Xavier Griffin (Ashley Nicole) of Charlotte, NC, and A'Lexus Griffin (Brandon Ward) of Clayton, NC; and three cherished great-grandchildren, Phillip Adams Jr., Xavier Griffin Jr., and Xuri Rose Griffin. She is also survived by her loving sister, Betty Hill (Bill Hill) of Charlotte, NC; two aunts, Dorothy Elmore and Virginia Williamson; Pamela Enloe and Raymond Curry, whom she thought of as children; special God daughter, Cara Elmore; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Lawndale in Lawndale, NC.
