Martha Evelyn Powell Mode, died Friday, July 13, 2018 at Peak Resources in Cherryville. Born in Cleveland County on March 6, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lawrence and Lizzie Parker Powell. Martha was a member of Union Baptist Church. She retired from Shadowline in Fallston. Martha was a wonderful baker and Christmas was always filled with her homemade goodies. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Martha is preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" Mode, and a sister, Myrtle Thompson.

Martha is survived by a sister, Ray McSwain of Cherryville; although Martha had no children of her own, she loved her many nieces and nephews, including Glenda White of Shelby and Lisa McMahan also of Shelby.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 11:00 am at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Shumate officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 10:00 am until 11:00 am in the sanctuary.
