Martha Louis Anthony Allen

Martha Louis Anthony Allen went to Heaven on Monday May 9, 2022.

Born in Cleveland County on May 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Jake Quinn Anthony and Alice Viola Bell Anthony. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Rufus Carr Allen and her infant brother. Martha graduated from No. 3 High School in 1941 and attended The National School of Commerce in Charlotte, NC. Her love of God and church helped her through tough times, saying goodbye to loved ones who passed before her.

Special memories of Martha include she and Rufus taking vegetables to the original farmers market on the corner of Warren and Morgan Street in Shelby and her love for baking and enjoying pound cakes, especially chocolate and lemon Goodie Bars. Time spent at family reunions was special to her, attending upwards of 6 times a year until COVID. In later years, Martha treasured conversations with friends and family who would come by to see her or talk with her on the phone while she watched TV.

Martha is survived by her brother, Joseph Anthony (Emma), her children, Cynthia Whisnant (Ronnie) and Thad Allen (Juanita), all of Shelby, NC; Grandchildren, Thea Allen of San Carlos, CA, Damon Allen, of Shelby, NC, great-grandchildren, Finnegan and Sullivan Allen of Shelby, NC, and step great-grandson, Jacob Green of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Martha is also survived by a great-granddaughter by choice, Abigail Beaver of Shelby, NC.
