The City of Kings Mountain will host a photography contest in observance of Martin Luther King Day, January 16, 2012. The theme will be “The American Dream”. The competition is open for residents of Cleveland County and students in the Cleveland County school system and there will be cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in both adult and student divisions.
“The competition is taking its cue from the “I Have a Dream” speech given by Dr. King in Washington, D.C. on August 28, 1963,” said Ellis Noell, Special Events Director for the City. “We are encouraging young and old to share their vision of the American dream and believe that this subject matter will provide great latitude in artistic interpretation”, added Noell.
Photographic prints will be accepted or submissions can be made digitally through submission of a disk mailed or dropped off at City Hall or e-mailed to. ellisn@cityofkm.com Deadline for submission is Friday, 5:00PM, January 13, 2012. The exhibit and reception with the entrants will open January 16th at Kings Mountain City Hall lobby at 6:00PM. The lobby will serve as the gallery for all the submitted photographs with winners announced at 7:00PM. The exhibit will be in the City Hall lobby in January and move to the Patrick Center in February for Black History month. The event is produced in cooperation with the Cleveland County NAACP.
