Mrs. Mary Alice Brydges Eaves, 76, of 1305 Briarcliff Road, Shelby died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Hospice Cleveland County of Wendover. Born in Shelby, she was the daughter of the late Azalea Blanton Brydges and Harland S. Brydges. A graduate of Shelby High School, she attended Appalachian State University. In 1954 she was presented in the Shelby Debutante Ball. She worked at A. V. Wray's and 6 Sons for several years, and worked for 26 years for Shelby City Schools as a Teacher Assistant. She was at Graham Elementary School for 21 years of the 26. She was a former member of N.C.A.T.A. and a current member of N. C. Retired Governmental Employee's Association. She was a former Red Cross Water Safety and Swimming Instructor for adults and children and a former Blood-Mobile Volunteer. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a former Junior Dept. Sunday School teacher and a G.A. leader. Mary Alice enjoyed working outdoors with her flowers, swimming, reading, watching movies, and being with family and friends. She was a devoted caregiver to her mother who had Alzheimer's for nine years. She is survived by a son, Greg Eaves of Shelby; daughter, Dawn Eaves Massey and husband Shawn of Edenton, NC; grandsons, Drake Eaves and Clay Eaves of Ellenboro, NC and Spencer Massey of Edenton, NC; a great granddaughter, Payton Marion Eaves of Forest City, NC; aunt, Glennie Blanton of Newton, NC; and many special cousins, andher former husband, Roddey P. Eaves of Raleigh, NC.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, April 15, 2013 at Cleveland Memorial Park in Shelby NC. The family will receive friends after the service at the gravesite. The Rev. Tony Tench and Rev. Perry Holleman will be officiating.
