Mary Lucinda McCoy Kempston

Mary Lucinda McCoy Kempston, 77, a resident of Shelby North Carolina departed this life on Monday January 16, 2023, at the Atrium Health Cleveland Hospital in Shelby North Carolina with her sister, Rebecca Roets by her side.

She was born August 3, 1945, in Volga, a daughter of the late Hudson and Maxine McCoy.

She was united in marriage to Robert Kempston on July 8 2006, who survives.

Surviving are five daughters: Brenda Haddix Horne and husband Phillip Horne of Sneads Ferry North Carolina, Linda Haddix Bookout and husband Troy Bookout of Loxley Alabama, Mary Haddix Cather and husband Thomas Greathouse of Bridgeport, Jennifer Haddix Malcolm and husband Eric Malcom of Fairmont, Roberta Haddix Carpenter and husband Jeffrey Carpenter of Belington. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Nicole Horne Lyton-Edwards, Andrew Malcolm, Michele Horne Waller, Jorey Carpenter, Matthew Cather, Aaron Malcom, Emily Cather and Jaxon Carpenter and three great-grandchildren: Bayleigh Jo Malcolm, William Waller and Eric Hunter Malcom. Two sisters are surviving: Shirley McGinnis and Rebecca Roets of Princeton Texas. Mary was proceeded in death by one brother Jerry McCoy.

Mary worked various jobs including as a coal miner at Kit Energy, Philippi West Virginia until she attended the Fred Eberly LPN school and graduated in 1988. Mary loved to be outside gardening and enjoyed traveling. Mary was loved and will be missed.

At Mary's request, no services will be held. Free Will Baptist Church will honor the life of Mary on January 22, 2023 during their traditional Sunday service beginning at 10:30.
