Mrs. Mary Madelean Douglas, 73, of 423 Highland Ave. Shelby, NC departed this life on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at her residence.  She was born on October 23, 1939 in Cleveland County to the late Earline Woods Dawkins and Roy Brown.

Mary was an employed with Cleveland Regional Medical Center for over 30 years.  She loved to draw and oh how she loved her flowers.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy John “B.J. Douglas; one brother, Robert Franklin Woods; sisters, Helen Louise McCoy, Warnerlee Marion andAnnie Carolyn Parker.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Brenda Douglas Grier (Charles) of Shelby; two brothers, Willie Hush (Betty) of Shelby and Kenneth Washington of Gastonia, NC; five sisters, Beulah Mae Lyons, Earline Bess, Angel Dawkins all of Shelby, Sandra Woods of Charlotte, NC and Zalina Roberts of Yanceyville, NC; six grandchildren, Ginger Douglas Latta (Vincent) of Fayetteville, NC, Kerri Douglas Thurman (Jeramie) of Shelby, Antonyo Douglas (Crystal) of Conover, Reginald “Antwan” (Marie) of Shelby, Charles Grier, Jr. (Amora) of Savannah, GA and Carlos Grier of Shelby; nine great-grandchildren, Jericha Thurman, Kimora Latta, Jeramie Thurman, Jr., Vincent Latta, II, Ja’Keyra Thurman, Ja’mareon Thurman, Nevaeh Douglas, Imoni Latta and Nigel Latta; step-great-grandchildren, Horatio Anderson, Keyasia Anderson, Kalundra Anderson, Dayshawanna Anderson, Nevaeh Brown and Keturah Reed; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Washington and Margie Douglas Stapleton both of Shelby; a brother-in-law, Thomas Douglas of Shelby; two special friends, Thomas “Meatloat” Moton and Ruth Thurman both of Shelby and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Hoppers Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Coleman officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:00 PM.
