Mary Margaret McDaniel

Mary Margaret McDaniel, affectionately known as Meg, was welcomed into her eternal home on May 7th, 2026, surrounded by love.

She was born on January 3, 1965, to Gerald Pitts Nichols Jr. and Mary Jo Nichols (Cox) in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia, and made North Carolina her home in 2003.

Meg was a devoted wife, mother, Nana, and educator. She had a remarkable way of inspiring everyone around her. Her spunk and optimism carried her through many challenges and remained with her to the very end.

On any given day, you could find her shaping young minds in the classroom or cheering on her grandsons from the sidelines. She dedicated over 30 years to teaching and was adored by her students and coworkers. She brought enthusiasm, warmth, and humor to every part of her life.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jo Cox; her father, Gerald Pitts Nichols Jr. and her sister, Kathy Nichols.

She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Chad McDaniel; her daughters, Morgan Fender (Dennis Fender) and Naomi McDaniel; her sister, Vicki Ramsey; and her grandsons, Lincoln, Glenn, Roman, and Clark Fender. She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Pleasant City Church in Shelby, NC on Saturday, May 16th at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made in Meg's memory to benefit local public schools through this fundraiser: GoFundMe Memorial Fund.
