Matthew Henry Sims

Mr. Matthew Henry Sims, 93, of 2759 Philadelphia Road Lawndale, NC passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020, at Atrium Health-Cleveland in Shelby. He was born in Cleveland County, NC on January 17, 1927 to the late Randall Earl Sims and the late Lillie Daniels Sims.

Mr. Sims attended Douglas High School and was employed 44 years with C.G. Fox Lumber Company for 44 years before retiring. Mr. Sims attended First Baptist Church in Lawndale until his health declined.

He had a great sense of humor and would always tell you the truth on how he felt about anything. Mr. Sims loved his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching football and baseball especially the Atlanta Braves. He will also be remembered for his kind nature and generous and loving spirit.

Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Johnson Sims; one daughter, Beverly Sims Stroud; two granddaughters, Brooke Ingrid Kee and LaSonya Denise Stroud; one great-grandson, Shaun Isaiah Surratt; six brothers, James Earl Sims, Robert Sims, John Sims, Joseph Sims, Clifton Sims and Tyree Sims and a sister, Irene Sims Portee.

He is survived by his children, three daughters, Theresa Sims of Goldsboro, NC, Mildred Kaye Sims of Shelby, NC and Vickie Lynn Sims of Lawndale, NC; one son, Michael Keith Sims (Daphne) of Lawndale; twelve grandchildren, Corry Miller (Rhonda), Christopher Miller, Dyshena Hoskins, Tywan Sims, Shonda Stroud, Addison (Dock), Terry Miller, Jr., Michael Surratt, Amanda Sims Williamson (Talmadge), Levi Miller (Ashley), Tracie Kee, Demetrius Thompson and MarKeith Surratt; forty-three great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Sims, Willie Sims and George Sims (Beatrice); sisters-in-law, Hazel Sims and Sarah Sims and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous friends.

The funeral service for Mr. Sims will be private. A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2020, at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon.
