Maude Padgett Griggs

Maude Padgett Griggs went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby. She was born on June 20, 1935 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Henry and Pearl Maddox Padgett.

Maude joined Lawndale Baptist Church at an early age. After marriage, she became a member of Washington Missionary Baptist Church. Her most recent membership was at New Life Christian Church and she remained faithful and active until her illness set in. Over the years, her church service has also included Kitchen Committee, Sacrament Committee and Trustee Board. She was always willing to help out in the church wherever she was needed at any time.

Maude would often tell her children the story of how she and Henry a.k.a. "Pop" met one another. She said that she was 18 years old when she and her family attended a church function at the then Washington Baptist Church. Henry was there with other people but left them to come talk to her. She said from the moment she saw him, she was in love. When he stepped to her, he asked "Did she see anyone there that she liked better then herself?". She said that's all it took. KABOOM!" They courted for 1 year; got married in 1954 and the rest is history.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Nelson Griggs, Sr.; her children, Moses Griggs, Faye Antonette Griggs (Larry Baxter) and Henry Nelson "Pee Wee" Griggs, and her siblings, James Henry "Buck" Padgett, Maggie Bell Padgett Glover (Rev.
